Research Studies

These studies (and many more) provide strong evidence supporting the use of collagen in wound care, with both powdered and sheet forms showing significant benefits in various wound types such as surgical wounds, pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, and burn wounds.

Systematic Review on Collagen Dressings for Chronic Wounds (2022)

  • Summary: A systematic review examined collagen dressings in the treatment of chronic wounds and found they significantly accelerated healing, enhanced closure rates, and reduced ulcer recurrence.

Comparative Study on Chronic Wounds (2017)

  • Summary: This study compared moist saline dressings, collagen sheets, and epidermal growth factor (EGF). Collagen sheets showed effectiveness in chronic wound healing and were more cost-effective than EGF.

Collagen Sheets in Diabetic Foot Ulcers (2020)

  • Summary: Collagen sheet dressings were tested on diabetic foot ulcers, showing improved healing time and a higher percentage of complete wound closure compared to standard treatments.

Collagen Dressings in Mixed-Depth Wounds (2021)

  • Summary: This clinical trial assessed the use of collagen dressings in mixed-depth (partial/full-thickness) wounds. The study concluded that collagen-based treatments accelerated healing and reduced wound size.

  • George Washington University Pilot Study (2019)

    • Summary: This pilot study assessed collagen powder as a treatment for punch biopsy wounds. It concluded that collagen powder was effective and non-inferior to sutures, offering good cosmetic outcomes.
